SPECIMEN:

AEROBIC CULTURES: SUPERFICIAL WOUNDS, ABSCESS, ASPIRATES, ANIMAL BITES, SKIN BIOPSY SHOULD BE SUBMITTED IN A SMALL AMOUNT OF STERILE, NON-BACTERIOSTATIC SALINE. ANAEROBIC CULTURES: ABSCESS OR DEEP WOUND, TISSUE, NORMALLY STERILE BODY FLUIDS OTHER THAN BLOOD, TRANSTRACHEAL ASPIRATIONS, BRONCHOSCOPIC SPECIMENS OBTAINED BY THE DOUBLE LUMEN TECHNIQUE, SUPRAPUBIC URINE ASPIRATES OBTAINED FROM BLADDER, NEPHROSTOMY TUBE OR SUPRAPUBIC CATHETERIZATION, GENITAL SPECIMENS FROM THESE SITES ONLY (CUL-DE-SAC ASPIRATION, CULDOCENTESIS, PERCUTANEOUS TRANSFUNDAL ASPIRATION, PLACENTA, FALLOPIAN TUBE, INTRAUTERINE DEVICES, SURGICAL SPECIMENS), EXUDATES, ASPIRATED PUS FROM DEEP WOUND OR ABSCESSES AND TYMPANOCENTESIS FLUID.

CONTAINER TYPE: TRANSPORT DEVICES(S) APPROPRIATE FOR AEROBIC AND ANAEROBIC CULTURE, SUCH AS BD™ PORT-A-CUL® VIAL OR SWAB IN AMIES GEL MEDIUM. PERITONEAL FLUIDS OR DIALYSATE SHOULD BE SUBMITTED IN BACTEC® BLOOD CULTURE BOTTLES.

MINIMUM VOLUME: 1 SWAB, VIAL, OR CULTURE BOTTLE.

TRANSPORT: ROOM TEMPERATURE.
