Genetic Tests for Hereditary Cancer

When a patient expresses concern about a personal or family history of cancer, and a possible increased risk for developing the disease, Luminus Diagnostics can help with our Cancer Risk Assessment Test.

Genetic testing, known as predictive testing, can assess the risk of up to eight cancer types – breast, ovarian, colorectal, pancreatic, endometrial, gastric, skin and prostate.

While this type of screening can predict the likelihood that an individual will develop cancer in his or her lifetime, it does not mean that everyone with a cancer-related gene will actually get the disease.

This critical genetic information, along with additional medical and family history, allows physicians and their patients to create a plan to reduce the risk of developing one or more of these prevalent cancers. An efficient strategy may encompass getting more frequent cancer screenings, avoiding specific risk factors, making lifestyle changes, taking preventive medication (chemoprevention), and undergoing risk-reducing surgeries when necessary.
